Essential Oil Rollers: Essence of Eden

What if perfumes had a purpose what if you could put on a perfume and that perfume could help benefit you in a way that you needed. Do you wear the same perfume every day, is the same essence filling the air around you day in and day out? What if you used perfumes with intentions?

Before picking my essence, I set an intention. Am I having a stressful day? Do I wish I could nap with the baby but can’t? Is my bad back getting the best of me? I pick my roller oil perfumes based on what I'm feeling like I need at the moment. So now let's look a little bit more into how to decide what oils to use in a perfume roller the best benefits you.

Now with any herbal or essential oil recipe or product post, I must include a few disclaimers for legal purposes: These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. When blending oils together it’s best to use complimentary essences. For example something minty fresh like peppermint would blend well with a citrusy aroma like lemon but I probably wouldn’t blend peppermint with a spicy aroma like cinnamon. Although if you like the combo then what’s stopping you. You’re the master of your own creation.

I love using this visual guide from Wellness Aromas as a starting point to decide which oils might blend well and then it’s trial and error in finding a blend that best suits my taste.

First you set your intention. The changing of seasons is a beautiful time to be outdoors and soaking in the essence of Mother Nature but my allergies just don’t want me to enjoy the outdoors without puffy eyes. So for instance, my roller blend “essence of Eden”. Take a combination of lemon, lavender, and peppermint to make a blend that not only helps with seasonal and environmental threats but it also gives off an earthy aroma that makes you want to stop and reflect on the beauty of nature. it gives us a good reminder that we need to treat every piece of the earth with as much respect as we would if we were walking through the garden of Eden itself.

Step two - pick your herbs / oils

Lemon is well known for its antibacterial to properties. While lavender is known for its anti-inflammatory and help with stress sleep and relaxation. Peppermint is known for its help with insomnia digestion stress headaches and seasonal allergies (sources cited at the end of article)

  • Always use due diligence when using herbs/essential oils

  • Substitute Peppermint with Ginger if Pregnant. Lemon can be known to cause photosensitivity.

Step 3: Blend and Roll

Be sure to dilute your roller blend according to who and how it's going to be used. The Dilution rate for Infants is 0.5%, Young Children / Sensitive Skin / Elderly 1-3%, Daily use 2-5%, and for short-term specific targeting use 10-20% dilution. You can read more over at AromaTools Blog where they have this great info graph.

Always top off that roller bottle with a carrier oil. A carrier oil is a base oil used to dilute essential oils in products. I like to use Fractionated Coconut Oil, but I have read of others using almond oil and combinations with vitamin E oil. At the end of the day, you do you.

As always, and if I’ve said it once - I’ve said it hundreds of time - always use due diligence when using herbs in any fashion or form. I am not a licensed medical practitioner or herbalist. All posts, “Ramblings”, are purely that - ramblings of a mountain mama from independent study.
